Charlene Moss realty - a bad experience

  • 2010 Trip to Alaska
  • Wasilla

I just want to take a moment from my current housing/rental search in Wasilla, Alaska to vent about the Charlene Moss real estate (realty) company.

From what I've seen, the Charlene Moss realty company controls a fair amount of the homes, duplexes, and quadplex rentals in Wasilla. Whether that's good or bad remains to be seen, but what is a problem is when they give you this information when you call them:

  • Go to the charlenemoss.com website.
  • See what rentals are available.
  • Go look at those rental units by yourself.
  • Come back and tell us which rentals you're interested in.
  • We'll drive out with you and give you an inside tour of the rental units you're interested in.

Unfortunately a very important part that they skip during this process is:

  • Almost all of the rental units on our website have already been rented.

WTH? Argh!

This was incredibly frustrating last week, when I went to their website, mapped out the properties I was interested in one evening, then spent four hours the next day driving around Wasilla, eventually finding a few rentals that I liked; then I went to the Charlene Moss office, only to find out every rental I was interested in had already been rented!

What the heck kind of service is that?! Charlene Moss and company wasted my night of planning, and my half day of driving around Wasilla, when all they had to do was tell my on the phone which properties were actually available.

Sorry, I normally don't like to rant about things, but bad service like this really annoys me.

Charlene Moss Rentals

Submitted by Anonymous on Thu, 04/14/2011 - 9:50pm.

Interesting find here since I'm having a hard time dealing with them now. Currently in the process of relocating from Hong Kong to AK for my job. Will be there 1 to 2 years and have been trying to get these people to help me rent a place for 2 weeks now.

So far the only thing they have been able to tell me is "send 20 dollars for the rental application fee, but we dont take credit cards". Had to western union them 20 dollars, and now 2 days later they still haven't picked up the fee, and when I emailed about it, the lady in charge said she will "try" to pick it up today. Emailed her again and asked her the time frame to get the ball rolling and she said I can have some of my staff call her to check out houses before my app. is processed.

The thing is, we tried that last week, but for every single home they don't actually work with you to schedule an appointment which is convenient for both parties. They more or less state a day and time and say to meet them at the office and then you can see the home.....Busy that day and time" "Oh too bad, maybe next time."

It's frustrating as hell trying to work with them, but it appears they pretty much have the rental market in that area monopolized. Doing all this from across an ocean makes it all the more frustrating. Once I'm over there, Im thinking to offer training she and her sales staff in dealing with people who are relocating. Right now, the process seems unorganized and not catered to the client.
