Dan Rather's Lisa Murkowski story

  • News

Dan Rather's Lisa Murkowski story: Wow, this line from Dan Rather's Huffington Post article on Lisa Murkowski just blew me away:

As for Joe Miller, Murkowski told us she might not have challenged him at all had he been more gracious during her concession call.

Wow. Of course we don't know if that's true or not, but if so, had Joe Miller just been a little nicer, Ms. Murkowski may not have run her now-famous write-in campaign for Alaska Senator.

Free Function Point Analysis software (Sleetmute.com)

  • News

Free Function Point Analysis software: This post isn't too related to Alaska, except for my new domain name: Sleetmute.com. Sleetmute is actually the name of a very small town in Alaska (see Sleetmute on Wikipedia), probably most famous for being about 200 miles from the fictional Cicely, Alaska in the tv series Northern Exposure. But for me, Sleetmute is something else: A free Function Point Analysis software tool.

Over 150 Mat-Su dogs rescued and need help

  • Anchorage
  • News
  • Palmer
  • Wasilla

I'll skip all the details for now -- you can read them in the link below -- but the important thing is that over 150 malnourished Siberian Huskies and Alaskan Malamutes have been rescued from a negligent breeder in the Mat-Su Valley here in Alaska, and these dogs could really use your help. This includes thirty potentially very cute, furry, cuddly little puppies.

Gin Gin 200 - First Alaska dog sled race of 2010

  • News

December 27, 2010: I believe the Gin Gin 200 dog sled race is the first Alaska dog sled race of 2010. I don't know too much about it yet, so I'll just share this link to the Gin Gin 200 website, and start reading more about it myself.

Alaska Senate news - Joe Miller loses Supreme Court appeal on all counts

  • News

Alaska Senate election news: Alaska's Joe Miller just lost his Alaska Supreme Court battle on all counts. The Alaska Suprement Court issued this statement regarding Mr. Miller's legal challenges:

"We affirm the decision of the Superior Court in all respects," the justices wrote in an order handed down early Wednesday afternoon. "There are no remaining issues raised by Miller that prevent this election from being certified."

Alaska judge throws out Joe Miller lawsuit

  • Anchorage
  • News

Alaska judge throws out Joe Miller senate lawsuit: NPR and other news outlets are reporting that an Alaska judge has thrown out Joe Miller's lawsuit regarding the recent Alaska senate race, specifically his loss to write-in candidate Lisa Murkowski, and the manner in which the Murkowski write-in ballots were accepted.

In one extremely critical statement, the judge states:

Murkowski defeats Miller as write-in candidate

  • News
  • Wasilla

Sorry, I've been a little busy the last few days (getting ready for a surgery in Anchorage, Alaska on Friday to remove my gallbladder), but while I was gone, Lisa Murkowski was officially named the winner of the Alaska senate race. Her write-in campaign managed to defeat Joe Miller by about 2,000 votes.

Murkowski v Miller election update

  • Anchorage
  • News
  • Wasilla

Monday evening, November, 15, 2010: If you count contested ballots in the Murkowski v Miller Alaska senate race, Ms. Murkowski is now ahead by one vote. Not counting those contested ballots, she trails Mr. Miller by, er ... some amount ... sorry, I'm too lazy to do the math tonight.

Joe Miller filing lawsuits in Alaska Senator campaign

  • News

Sigh, I'm very disappointed in humanity to read that Joe Miller has already filed one lawsuit in regards to the Alaska senate race in his campaign against Lisa Murkowski. While the Murkowski write-in ballots are still being counted, he has already filed one lawsuit because the campaign officials are allowing minor misspellings of "Murkowski", and he intends to file a second lawsuit to order state officials to hand over to his campaign voter rolls so they can be compared against the ballots (according to reports).

Alaska State Fair, now under way

  • News
  • Palmer

Just a quick note that the Alaska State Fair is now under way. It's running from August 26th to September 6th. You might even see me there, as (a) I want to go there and check it out, and (b) I'm driving into Palmer, Alaska on a daily basis, trying to find a new place to live, and the Alaska State Fair is right there in Palmer.
