Spend the summer in an RV?

May 30, 2007

One friend wrote and suggested living in an RV this summer if the rental stuff doesn't pan out. Here's my reply to him:

Yep, an RV is definitely looking like an option. I'm not sure what I'm going to do, but I think I've sent over 20 emails so far this morning. I have to go look at another scary place shortly.

If I don't find a place soon it's going to be "No aurora for you!" (said like "No soup for you!" from Seinfeld.) (Well, at least there won't be an aurora until September or so. I was hoping I'd be able to stay long enough to see the light show, then sneak out of here. To do that I think I'll need to be up in Fairbanks in September, but I'm not 100% sure on that.)

I also look forward to touching ground in the Arctic Circle some time. Oh, there's also a famous baseball game in Fairbanks on June 21. I think they start around 10:30 or 11pm, and play through midnight.

Here's a second email to another friend:

I talked to a nice realtor this morning, and she told me that everyone from California or Hawaii thinks that property here is cheap, but everyone else thinks it's way too expensive. I told her that I'm definitely in that second category, but I finally just told myself to get over it and find a place.

I have one lead on a place I don't like very much, and another lead on a place that looks ok from the outside, but I haven't seen the inside yet.

All in all, I'd rather be working than trying to find a place to live up here(!).

Again I think these emails sum up the morning, and my state of mind.
