This is a view of Denali National Park from September 12, 2007, just a day or two before the last Denali shuttle buses of the season are allowed to run. Autumn has more than arrived!

Reading that the Northern Lights ("Aurora Borealis") might be visible last night in Fairbanks, Alaska, I hopped in the car around 9 p.m., and drove as far north as I could, trying to find a clearing in the sky. This photo of a clearing in the sky was taken at 11:25 p.m., somewhere south of Cantwell, in the area known as Denali State Park.

Most people that visit Alaska will never see Denali, but these lucky people were able to see some of it. On a clear day, Denali towers over Talkeetna, and you can see why all the climbers use Talkeetna as their base camp.
