Deadhorse

I'm not sure why, but when I saw this picture hanging in a doctor's office in Anchorage, Alaska yesterday, it reminded me of the phrase "Alaska polar bears facing extinction". For some reason that's what I think is off to the right in this photo, the thing these Alaska polar bears are looking at, their own extinction.

I don't know where this funny picture of a bear sliding on the ice in Alaska came from, as a friend of mine who knows I like bears and signs sent it to me in the mail, but it is funny.

Here's a picture of the main entrance to the Caribou Inn in Deadhorse / Prudhoe Bay. It's basically a tin/metal building. The rooms are separated by thin walls, and it was the dirtiest hotel I've stayed at in a very long time, with stains on the carpeting and the lumpiest "bed" I've ever slept on. But by the time I got there I was just glad to have a place to stay.
