Left Kentucky one year ago

Last night I realized that I left Kentucky one year ago yesterday, and began the long drive to Alaska. I actually left Kentucky twice. I left once around March 2, 2010, to see my family in Illinois, then came back to Kentucky to see one of my dogs one more time before I left.

I've written about Zeus before, so I won't say anything more here, as it brings tears to my eyes just thinking about leaving him. I'll just say that I came back to see him one more time, and then on March 8th I said goodbye and started the drive to Alaska. By this time last year I was probably still in Missouri, or possibly Kansas. Little did I know what adventures life had in store for me.

Arkansan in Alaska

Submitted by Anonymous on Wed, 03/09/2011 - 2:46pm.

I left May 10, 2010 for the 4000 mile road trip. I just ran across your blog and thought I would say hello and wish you "good luck" from another lower-48-er. It's been an interesting winter.

The Alaska winter, and the drive here

Submitted by alvin on Thu, 03/10/2011 - 12:00am.

The wind here sure has been something. I'm finally sleeping through the nights after sleeping in the hallway during the first "storms".

And wow, you probably passed me in Canada when I got stranded in Dease Lake with some bad tires, or when I took a couple of extra days in Stewart, British Columbia.

Either way, I hope you enjoyed the trip, and are surviving the winter. I'll guess Arkansas winters weren't like this either, lol.
